Little did I know that developing HealthScout™ would have a profound effect on my own health journey.
While HealthScout was still in development, I used my own health data to test the early AI models. I asked a simple question: "Do you see any trends that show a relationship between my medications and my lab results?"
The answer shocked me.
HealthScout identified that my kidney function had declined by 30% in just seven months — dropping from a healthy 90 to 69 on the eGFR scale. My doctor had missed this entirely, scanning past the "69" because it fell within the "normal" range on standard lab reports.
But HealthScout saw what my doctor couldn't: the concerning trajectory across time and the potential connection to the anti-inflammatory medications I'd been taking daily for joint pain. Unlike my physician, who only had access to my current provider's records, HealthScout analyzed my complete health history across three different healthcare systems spanning over a decade.

After experiencing firsthand how disconnected health information can lead to frustration and missed insights, Joe became passionate about using people’s own health data in combination with AI to level the playing field between patients and the healthcare system.
